TRCN INDUCTS 253 LASU GRADUATES; CHARGES THEM TO BE EXCEPTIONAL EDUCATORS
In a stirring ceremony that took place on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the 3-in-1 Complex, Faculty of Education, Lagos State University (LASU), education experts gathered to address 253 newly inducted professional teachers. These fresh members of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) — comprising Ph.D., Masters, and Bachelor’s Degree holders — were urged to set the highest standards for themselves and become true “destiny moulders” in their various classrooms.
The event, which marked the official induction of these teachers into the esteemed TRCN body, was a significant moment for the inductees. It was also a call to action for them to take on the heavy responsibility of shaping the futures of their students. As they filed into the Conference Hall, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation for what was to come.
Dr. (Mrs.) Stella Maria Nwoekeocha, Acting Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, addressed the inductees through Dr. Hammed Abimbola Okunola, the Director of Regulation, Accreditation, and Enforcement at TRCN. In her address, Dr. Nwoekeocha praised the inductees for their impressive performance in the Computer-Based Test (CBT), where they achieved an 83.2% pass rate. She highlighted that the teaching profession is central to societal progress, calling the inductees “architects of the future.” She urged them to take pride in their new role, saying, “You belong to an elite group of educators who will change the narrative of teaching and learning. Be humble and diligent in your work, for the futures of your students are in your hands.” The message was clear: teaching is more than just a profession; it is a calling to shape destinies and transform lives. Dr. Nwoekeocha reminded the inductees that their work in the classroom would have a lasting impact on the students entrusted to them. “You are foot soldiers of change, and your work will echo for generations,” she said.
Professor Olugbenga Akindoju, the Dean of the Faculty of Education at LASU, also delivered a heartfelt message to the new teachers. Speaking through Professor Babajide G. Abidogun, he expressed gratitude to TRCN for their continued support in ensuring that LASU graduates meet both national and international standards. Professor Akindoju reminded the inductees that today’s ceremony was not just about receiving certificates; it was about taking on the mantle of responsibility as ambassadors of quality education.
“Today, you are not just being certified; you are being commissioned to serve as beacons of competence, professionalism, and ethical responsibility,” he said. “You now belong to a prestigious community of nation-builders, and we expect you to wear that badge with pride and accountability."
The Dean of the Faculty also reiterated the Faculty’s commitment to producing educators who are not only well-versed in theory but also innovative and responsive to the needs of modern classrooms. He urged the inductees to embrace their profession with pride and work diligently to positively impact their students’ lives.
The Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, ably represented by Professor Oluwafemi Lawal, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, officially opened the ceremony and congratulated the inductees. She joined Dr. Nwoekeocha in presenting TRCN certificates to the new teachers. In her brief address, she emphasized the importance of setting the pace in the teaching industry and serving as role models for future educators.
The induction ceremony was smoothly coordinated by Mr. Emmanuel A. Fanu, Registrar and Secretary to the Council of TRCN, who was represented by Mrs. Modupe Obayomi-Davis, Deputy Registrar/Faculty Officer of the Faculty of Education, LASU.
Several prominent academic figures from LASU’s Faculty of Education were also present to witness the momentous event, including Professor Olumuyiwa A.K. Noah, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), and other distinguished faculty members
As the ceremony came to a close, the new inductees stood proud, ready to embark on their careers as educators.
