LASU Backs JAMB Registrar Amid UTME Glitch, Praises Oloyede’s Integrity
Lagos State University (LASU) has publicly declared its support for the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, in the wake of technical issues that marred the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in parts of the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 15th of May 2025, signed by the Deputy Registrar, Centre for Information and Public Relations unit, CIPR, Mrs Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the institution described Prof. Oloyede as a “beacon of integrity” and commended his rare show of accountability following the disruptions that led to the invalidation of results for over 379,000 candidates across Lagos and South Eastern states.

Oloyede, during a press briefing held earlier on Wednesday May 15, 2025, acknowledged the technical glitches and human errors that compromised the examination process in five states. Rather than shifting blame, he took full responsibility and announced that a supplementary exam would be conducted for all affected candidates. His transparency and willingness to confront the issue head-on earned praise from stakeholders, including LASU.
“Prof. Oloyede did what many in public service often shy away from—he accepted responsibility, promised corrective action, and began a technical review of the process,” the university said in its statement.
The university lauded Oloyede’s decision to subject JAMB’s processes to internal scrutiny, describing it as “a mark of exceptional character and true leadership.”
LASU also highlighted the reforms Oloyede has implemented since assuming office in 2016, noting improvements in exam transparency, credibility, and efficiency. According to the institution, these reforms have helped universities like LASU admit more qualified candidates and reduce admission-related irregularities.
“Since his time as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Oloyede has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to excellence and public service,” the statement added.
LASU called on Nigerians to view the recent setbacks not as failures but as opportunities to strengthen the country’s educational systems. The university stressed the importance of supporting leaders who take responsibility and work to fix problems, rather than condemning them for isolated incidents.
“May the Nigerian education family continue to make progress,” the statement concluded.
The schedule of supplementary UTME for affected candidates has commenced, as JAMB works to restore public confidence in its examination process.
