Some University of Lagos students living in private hostels on the main campus in Akoka are complaining about steep rent hikes, with some fees rising nearly 40 percent—for example, a one-bedroom self-contained apartment that was N500,000 last session is now over N700,000 yearly.
Private hostels became popular last year due to delays in the renovation of official hostels, while online learning was enforced for a semester.
The university has not yet announced official fees for its hostels, and its communication unit advised inquiries be sent via email.
