*🩺 BREAKING: FUL Medical Programme Secures Full MDCN Accreditation*
The Medical Programme (MB;BS) of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has successfully scaled through the accreditation exercise of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
The approval followed the Council’s second accreditation visit to the institution on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
There was jubilation at the College of Health Sciences, Adankolo, on Thursday evening as the MDCN formally communicated the positive outcome to the University Management. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, visibly moved by the development, knelt to give thanks to God for the success, describing the feat as a major turnaround for the institution.
Professor Akinwumi commended members of his management team, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Mike Ogirima, mni, as well as academic and non-academic staff of the College for their collective commitment and hard work during the accreditation process.
He recalled the Council’s first visit in August 2025, noting that the initial outcome was discouraging. According to him, the university took the observations seriously and worked tirelessly within a short period to address all identified gaps.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the MDCN accreditation team for their professionalism, objectivity, and for acknowledging the significant improvements made by the university since their last assessment.
The accreditation is expected to strengthen medical education at FUL and boost confidence among prospective students and stakeholders in the university’s health sciences programmes
