Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) has recorded another major achievement after a student of the institution emerged winner at the Red Bull Basement Nigeria National Finale.
The feat was achieved by Oniyinde Jesutofunmi, a 300-level Mechatronics student in the College of Engineering Technology, who emerged first nationwide out of over 3,000 participants.
With the victory, Jesutofunmi will now represent Nigeria at the global finale in the United States of America (USA) scheduled to hold from June 1 to 3, 2026.
His winning innovation, titled “Vital Tag for Livestock Animal”, is an IoT-based solution designed to detect illness in animals through sound sensors and instantly alert owners regardless of their location.
As part of the reward, the student received €3,000 in equity support to further develop the innovation, as well as a laptop.
The award was officially presented to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, and other Principal Officers of the university on April 8, 2026, by the Dean of the College of Engineering Technology, Engr. Dr. Bankole, alongside the Head of the Innovation Team, Engr. Dr. Balogun.
