FG Releases ₦2.3bn to Settle Lecturers’ Arrears, Promises Reforms

 

The Federal Government announced on Wednesday that it has released ₦2.3 billion to settle salary and promotion arrears owed to university lecturers.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s tertiary education sector through targeted fiscal support, policy reforms, and continued dialogue with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university unions.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, shared the update while briefing on ongoing engagements with ASUU and other tertiary institution unions. He emphasized that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is determined to address all pending welfare and funding issues transparently, fairly, and sustainably, according to a statement from the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Folasade Boriowo.

Alausa revealed that the released funds represent Batch 8 salary and promotion arrears, distributed to universities nationwide through the Off
