The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially opened its portal for Change of Course and Change of Institution for the 2025 admission session. This is for candidates who applied through Direct Entry (DE) and wish to switch their preferred course or university.
So, if you are a DE student and want to choose a different course or school, this is your chance to do it.
What is the JAMB Change of Course/Institution?
Sometimes, after applying for admission, you may want to:
-
Choose another course
-
Pick a different university, polytechnic, or college of education
Maybe your first choice is no longer offering your course, or you just changed your mind. That’s okay! JAMB gives you the chance to make corrections through the Change of Course/Institution portal.
This process is now open for Direct Entry candidates only.
Who Can Use This Portal?
This update is for Direct Entry (DE) students only. These are students who:
-
Already have a diploma (ND, NCE, IJMB, JUPEB, etc.)
-
Applied to enter 200 level directly in a university
If you registered for DE and you want to change either your course or your school, you can now do it officially through JAMB.
Why Do People Change Their Course or Institution?
Here are some common reasons students choose to change:
-
Their First Choice School Has a High Cut-Off Mark
-
Some schools are very competitive. If you feel your grade may not meet the cut-off, you might want to choose a less competitive school.
-
-
Course Not Available
-
Maybe your first choice course is no longer offered by the school, or it was not approved this year.
-
-
You Got Better Advice
-
After talking to teachers, family, or admission officers, you might realize there’s a better option for you.
-
-
You Changed Your Mind
-
It’s okay! Sometimes people discover a new passion or career goal.
-
How to Do the Change of Course or Institution (DE)
Follow these simple steps:
-
Go to a JAMB-Accredited CBT Centre
-
You cannot do this process on your phone or at home. Visit any JAMB-approved CBT (Computer-Based Test) center near you.
-
-
Ask for Change of Course/Institution
-
Tell them you are a DE candidate and you want to do a change of course or change of school.
-
-
Choose New Course/Institution
-
Carefully select your new course and institution from the list of available options. Make sure the course matches your qualifications.
-
-
Do Your Thumbprint
-
This is very important. JAMB will ask you to thumbprint (scan your fingerprint) to confirm your identity. Without this step, the process is not complete.
-
-
Pay the Required Fee
-
There’s a small fee for this service (usually around ₦2,500–₦3,500). The CBT center will guide you on how to make payment.
-
-
Collect Your Printout
-
Once done, ask for your printout or confirmation slip. Keep it safe. You may need it during admission.
-
Important Things to Know
-
You can only make changes a limited number of times. So, be very sure before submitting.
-
Not all schools accept DE students for all courses. Ask questions before choosing.
-
Make sure your O’level and ND/NCE results are correct and properly uploaded to JAMB CAPS.
-
If you are changing to a school that requires a Post-UTME or screening, prepare for it.
When Should You Do It?
The portal is open now, but we don’t know for how long. It’s better to do it as soon as possible before the deadline is announced. If you wait too long, the portal might close, and you may lose your chance to change anything.
If you are a Direct Entry (DE) candidate, and:

You want to change your course
