The Students’ Union Government of The Polytechnic, Ibadan has appealed to the Oyo State House of Assembly to stop Governor Seyi Makinde’s plan to rename the institution.
In a letter signed by the SUG President, Comrade Oladipupo Olamide D, the students said changing the name would erase the school’s history, identity, and long-standing reputation built over 50 years.
They stressed that the name “The Polytechnic, Ibadan” is widely recognized for academic excellence and holds great value to current students, alumni, and the community.
The union urged lawmakers to act quickly before the matter is finalized, pleading for the name to remain unchanged.
