The Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos, on Monday, January 19, 2026, presented a total of 508 graduates for induction and hooding during its annual ceremony held as part of the institution’s 56th Convocation activities.
The event took place at the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Lagos Branch Secretariat, and brought together graduating students from 10 departments within the faculty.
A breakdown of the graduates shows that Chemical Engineering produced 59 graduates, Mechanical Engineering 67, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering 60, Systems Engineering 41, Surveying and Geoinformatics 49, Computer Engineering 34, Electrical and Electronics Engineering 97, Civil and Environmental Engineering 78, Biomedical Engineering 19, while Petroleum and Gas Engineering recorded four graduates.
In his address, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Professor Samson Adeosun, congratulated the graduates for successfully completing their degree programmes despite academic and professional challenges. He described the induction ceremony as the graduates’ formal entry into the engineering industry.
Professor Adeosun charged the new engineers to see their Bachelor’s degrees as a call to national development, urging them to remain open-minded and ready to unlearn and relearn in line with evolving industry demands.
The ceremony also featured an induction lecture delivered by the President and Managing Director of Schneider Electric, West Africa, Engineer Ajibola Akindele. Represented by the Channel Sales Director, Nurudeen Oyedeji, Engr. Akindele congratulated the graduates and formally welcomed them into the engineering profession.
He encouraged the inductees to embrace collaboration in addressing Nigeria’s infrastructural and developmental challenges, with particular emphasis on the energy sector.
The event further celebrated academic excellence as Mekwunye Clinton of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and Olubunmi Peace of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering emerged as Best Graduating Students in the faculty. Both graduates recorded an outstanding CGPA of 4.90 in their respective courses.
