The Lagos State Government said over 23,000 civil servants had undergone various training programmes, including digital literacy, as part of its drive to build a more efficient and future-ready public service.
Speaking at a press briefing to mark the second year of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term in Ikeja, Lagos, the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, stated that “a total of 23,420 staff members benefited from various training interventions between May 2022 and December 2024.”
According to Ayantayo, the capacity development efforts were wide-ranging and strategic.
Within the same period, over 185 training programmes, including in-plant and in-service training, were organised which cut across multiple cadres, skill levels and thematic areas relevant to public sector efficiency, leadership development and regulatory compliance,” he said on Wednesday.
These courses, he added, included digital transformation, emotional intelligence, policy analysis, and project management.
Ayantayo highlighted the growing interest across government agencies in upskilling their workforce.
“The ministry processed 742 sign-off training requests from various ministries, departments, and agencies.
The commissioner also highlighted international collaboration efforts.
“The state government, through the ministry in partnership with the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation and the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, sponsored over 25 officers on training under the auspices of AIG Public Leadership Programme.”
