OAU RESCHEDULE 2025/2026 MATRICULATION CEREMONY FOR FRESHMEN

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has released an important update concerning the matriculation ceremony for all newly admitted students for the 2025/2026 academic session. In the latest announcement, the university confirmed that the matriculation ceremony, which had previously been scheduled for an earlier date, has now been officially rescheduled to Tuesday, 16th December, 2025. This change was made after careful consideration of several internal academic and administrative factors, ensuring that the event reflects the high standards for which OAU is widely known.

The matriculation ceremony is a significant and time-honoured tradition in OAU. It is not merely a formal gathering but a rite of passage that marks the students’ transition from admission applicants to fully recognized members of the university community. Through this ceremony, students take the matriculation oath, signifying their acceptance of the university’s rules, values, and academic expectations. For many fresh undergraduates, this moment marks the true beginning of their higher education journey, serving as both an official welcome and a reminder of the responsibilities ahead.

The university has stressed that all matriculating students must come properly dressed in their academic gowns, which represent academic seriousness and institutional pride. Students are also expected to arrive at the venue early enough to settle in before the commencement of the event. Punctuality is strongly advised, as it demonstrates discipline, respect for the institution, and readiness to embrace the academic culture of OAU.

Furthermore, OAU has extended warm invitations to parents, guardians, and well-wishers, encouraging them to attend and celebrate this milestone with their wards. Matriculation is often seen as a moment of joy not only for the students but also for the families who have supported them throughout their educational journey. Their presence adds beauty, encouragement, and emotional value to the ceremony.

The management has also encouraged all fresh students to stay updated by frequently checking the university’s official website, notice boards, and verified social media platforms. These channels will provide additional instructions, guidelines on gown collection, venue arrangements, seating protocol, and any other updates related to the ceremony or subsequent academic activities.

Overall, the rescheduling of the matriculation ceremony aims to ensure that the event is conducted in a well-coordinated and memorable manner. The university remains committed to giving every student a smooth and dignified start to their academic life at OAU.
