UNIUYO GETS NEW VICE-CHANCELLOR

University of Uyo has announced the appointment of Professor Christopher Nyong Ekong as its 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The appointment, approved by the institution’s Governing Council, follows what was described as a rigorous and transparent selection process involving detailed scrutiny of applications, assessment of credentials, and interactions with shortlisted candidates.

According to a statement issued by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, the process adhered strictly to established legal frameworks and best practices, ensuring fairness, merit, and integrity.

Professor Ekong, a distinguished scholar in Economics, was selected based on his academic excellence, administrative experience, and demonstrated leadership capacity. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chairman of the Committee of Deans, contributing significantly to the university’s development.

The Governing Council expressed confidence in his ability to lead the institution towards greater achievements in teaching, research, and community service.

The appointment is scheduled to take effect from June 16, 2026.
