The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has warned the public against a circulating flyer falsely claiming a free NIN correction portal is open. The flyer, marked “FAKE” with red crosses in a viral image, advertises unauthorized links for name, gender, date of birth, and other corrections, mimicking official NIMC and Federal Government logos.
NIMC stated on its platforms that all NIN modifications must use the sole official channel: https://selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng. The commission emphasized avoiding self-service on fake sites to prevent data compromise and identity theft risks.

This alert follows similar past scams debunked by fact-checkers, where bogus portals tricked users into sharing personal details. Nigerians are urged to verify information via NIMC’s official website or enrolment centres only.
