The Federal Government has stated that it has met most of ASUU’s demands, describing the union’s two-week warning strike as unjustified. The government urged ASUU members to return to the classroom without further delay.
However, ASUU countered, accusing the Federal Government of deceiving the public and neglecting the welfare of university workers. The union claimed that many professors had already left the system due to poor conditions of service.
In response, the Federal Government has directed Vice-Chancellors to compile reports on staff members participating in the strike, emphasizing the implementation of the no work, no pay policy.
Meanwhile, more ASUU chapters across universities have joined the two-week warning strike, leading to the suspension of lectures, examinations, and other academic activities.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has thrown its weight behind ASUU, condemning the Federal Government’s no work, no pay stance and urging it to retract the policy while meeting the union’s demands.
